Shaping the Future of Penley Together

July 2025

The Health Board is now starting a formal service review and options to consider what’s possible for the future of services in Penley Hospital. This includes revisiting whether the ward could reopen, alongside exploring other safe, high-quality alternatives that meet the needs of the local community.

To support this process, the Health Board are inviting people living and working locally to share their views through a short online survey or alternatively Maelor South Community Council will be arranging for hard copies of the survey to be available at local community venues. Further details on locations will be posted on the MSCC Community Council notice boards and online media pages. It is important that we reach as many members of our community as possible.  Please help us by ensuring every member/neighbour has the opportunity to complete the survey. Your feedback will help shape the early thinking and support the development of options before any next steps are made. A final decision will be made by the Health Board in December 2025.

It was brought to our attention that the survey originally had a closing date of 7th July.  This was an error, and it will remain open with currently no fixed closing date.

Further public engagement opportunities will be organised over the coming months,

there will also be opportunities to participate in community drop-in sessions and forums where you can learn more about the review process, discuss ideas, and raise any concerns. Information about these events will be publicised in advance, and we welcome everyone’s involvement. Further information about how to get involved check the Penley Hospital webpage   If you are a member of a local group a member of the Health Board Team will be happy to attend an arranged meeting to take part in a short discussion. For further information or arrange a visit, please let the Health Board know. By emailing BCU.GetInvolved@wales.nhs.uk

We encourage you to reach out, ask questions, and share your perspective—whether through the survey, at public events, or by connecting with the Health Board directly.
